Atypical Facial Pain (ATFP) is a syndrome encompassing a wide group of facial pain problems. ATFP can have many different causes but the symptoms are all similar. Facial pain, often described as burning, aching or cramping, occurs on one side of the face, often in the region of the trigeminal nerve and can extend into the upper neck or back of the scalp. Although rarely as severe as trigeminal neuralgia, facial pain is continuous for ATFP patients, with few, if any periods of remission. Recent studies propose that ATFP is an early form of trigeminal neuralgia. Indeed, some patients have components of both ATFP and TN symptoms. Earlier literature has linked ATFP to "psychological pathology." Recent studies, however have shown no such link exists.

ATYPICAL FACIAL PAIN

Well i talked to the head neurosurgeon at john hopkins hospital in baltimore yesterday. After reviewing my records she has diagnosed me with atypical facial pain and unfortunately they don't treat that. She has referred me to one of the top country's neurosurgeon in new york city, Dr. Jeffrey Brown. This is it, if there is nothing he can do to help me then i have to live like this the rest of my life. There are certain surgeries that can be done, which is very risky because of the trigeminal nerve being so close to the brain. Then there's a few stories i've read that the surgery didn't help or worstened the problem. I'm willing to do the surgery if at all he can give me a high success rate. Now stress intensifies the pain so now i find out that he is not in our network on insurance so therefore we have to pay out of pocket. 600.00 JUST FOR A CONSULTATION. Then if surgery is my only option then how much is that gonna cost???? Then the airfare by itself??? I've been yelling for the past year i don't want to live like this anymore i'm beginning to think it would just be cheaper on my family just to bury me :( i'm now stressed and depressed...what to do?

one last dr. to see

I have already seen an allergist in 2007 for my head but i'm giving it one more shot tomorrow before i hopefully get accepted at john hopkins in baltimore, they should have received my essay yesterday to whether or not they will see me. I am going to have the tests done tomorrow with the needles just to make sure i'm not allergic to anything , which could be the cause of my head and face pain. I bout died Friday when the rain was moving in i couldn't even get off the couch it hurt so bad, Rain and stress is such a trigger, i tried pulling some rotation hours for school at cvs yesterday and couldn't make it in today i was hurting so bad, I don't know what i'm gonna do. I am already on the #1 trigeminal neuralgia med and it doesn't seem to be working, i guess if anything surgery will HAVE to be the next step if i want any relief , I actually wish i'd go in tomorrow and the dr. say OMG you are allergic to....... damn what a relief , but my luck isn't that good .lol

another pharmacy robbed

mcminn county's anderson pharmacy was robbed sunday when a man walked thru the front door and it was closed, popped the lock and was in and out with 20,000.00 worth of narcotics in less than 45 seconds?????????STREET VALUE 1/2 MILLION DOLLARS... WOW i believe they are going to have to make mandatory sentences for these criminals, you walk in a bank take 200.00 your ass is going away for awhile, you walk in a pharmacy take 20,000 dollars worth of drugs and you'll be out in 6 months... something not quite right there.

robbed again

well another pharmacy got robbed, this time in marion co. Apparently the thieves set a truck on fire on the other side of town to keep the police occupied while on the other side of town their crashing through the pharmacy. Walked away with thousands of dollars worth of pills. WOW one of the reasons i got out of banking was because of the scares of being robbed, i think pharmacies are getting to be just as bad as banking now, drug seekers are doing whatever they can to get their fix......sorta scary

pharmacy phantom

A burglar managed to break into a pharmacy in Murfreesboro and stole thousands of dollars worth of prescription medication. The thief used an unconventional burglary tool to get inside....he removed the vinyl siding and cut a hole in the wall and actually crawled through the bathroom??? desperate you think? The crook stole 500 oxycontin pills valued at $4,000. He also took about 1,000 oxycodone pills worth $250 and caused about $5,000 worth of damage to the outer and inner walls.
What's so bad is the alarm was triggered, pharmacist notified and he thought it was just the fax machine so told the policeman to decline....it would suck to be him right now....wow

acetaminophen awareness, how much do you take?

Most people aren't aware of how much acetaminophen is to much. Acetaminophen can cause liver damage which leads to liver failure. 4grams a day (4000 mg) is the max a person should be taking. I have been taking 3g a day for the past 4 yrs , and including the rest of the meds they have me on... well it scares me to death. Acetaminophen is found in otc products, not just script pain killers. Tylenol, Nyquil and Theraflu also has it. For some Tylenol is the first thing they grab out of the cabinet for any kind of pain.Acetaminophen can have harmful side effects in high doses.
How aware is the public of these side effects? In a 2007 study published in the Journal of American Pharmacists, researchers found that out of 104 respondents, 80% said that they had used acetaminophen. The majority of these people weren’t sure if they had received information about the risks of taking high doses. Also, they did not know what would be considered a high dose for regular- or extra-strength products.
Liver Damage
The liver is vulnerable to harm because it is the organ that processes toxic substances. When the liver is damaged by an overload of toxins, a person may have early signs of acute liver failure, like yellowing of the skin and eyes (called :: jaundice), nausea, and vomiting. These symptoms can quickly worsen, leading to liver failure and death
of pain. Makes me take a second look at what i'm gonna give my child next time a fever comes rolling around??????????

Turmeric herb used for anti inflammatory and joint stiffness

I heard on our local news channel today that turmeric herb (family of the curry seasoning) is now in a capsule form that is being used daily for a "NATURAL" anti inflammatory and joint stiffness remedy... I am very excited about this, but what caught my attention was that it cleanses the liver of all the chemicals your other meds are doing to it, plus helps in cholesterol...I worry daily about what meds, and even the use of alcohol is doing to my liver. Turmeric is thought to reduce inflammation by lowering histamine levels and it may also stimulate the adrenal glands to increase production of a hormone that reduces inflammation. It is often used to ease joint pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. However, it is also used to reduce joint pain and in inflammation in other disorders as well. It also helps in digestive aid, and laboratory studies indicate that curcumin has anti-cancer activity. More specifically, it destroys some types of cancer cells. For example, in the laboratory, curcumin kills cultures of human leukemia cells. The man on the show today said he takes it everyday 3 x's a day and will from here on...it's all natural definately worth a try and looking . i'm going this weekend to the nearest health store and getting me some, turmeric capsules, check em out...pregnant women, people with blood clotting disorders and certain health conditions can not take, ask your pharmacist or dr. if any questions about this....

grapefruit CAN counteract with certain meds

Grapefruit juice contains chemicals that can cause problems with enzymes that break down certain types of medicines in your intestines. When a medicine does not get broken down properly in the intestines, you can have too much medicine in your blood. The chemicals in grapefruit juice can also cause you to have not enough medicine in your blood. Having too much medicine in your blood increases your chances of having side effects

A.K.A. "THE SUICIDE DISEASE"

Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from your face to your brain. If you have trigeminal neuralgia, even mild stimulation of your face — such as from brushing your teeth or putting on makeup — may trigger a jolt of excruciating pain.

Trigeminal neuralgia symptoms may include one or more of these patterns:

Occasional twinges of mild pain
Episodes of severe, shooting or jabbing pain that may feel like an electric shock
Spontaneous attacks of pain or attacks triggered by things such as touching the face, chewing, speaking and brushing teeth
Bouts of pain lasting from a few seconds to several seconds
Episodes of several attacks lasting days, weeks, months or longer —some people have periods when they experience no pain
Pain in areas supplied by the trigeminal nerve (nerve branches), including the cheek, jaw, teeth, gums, lips, or less often the eye and forehead
Pain affecting one side of your face at a time
Pain focused in one spot or spread in a wider pattern
Attacks becoming more frequent and intense over time

NECK PAIN - Feel like you pulled a muscle in the side of your neck? Think again, especially if it doesn't go away. It can also radiate down the left side of the shoulder into the arm...(great i experience this every day) is it fibro or unhealthy heart lol????

SEXUAL PROBLEMS- having problems achieving or keeping erections?

DIZZINESS, FAINTNESS, SHORTNESS OF BREATH - If you can't catch your breath while walking upstairs, vacuuming, weeding the garden, or doing other activities that previously caused you no trouble, this is a reason to be on the alert

INDIGESTION, NAUSEA, HEARTBURN

JAW AND EAR PAIN THAT IS ONGOING

PHARM PARTY

one of the newest fads going on today for teens is hosting a "pharm party". the teens have to bring something out of their parents medicine stash and we all know we have some stashed away. xanax, vicoden, lortab, anything they don't care what it is you just have to bring something. If you decide to come to the party emptyhanded then you are asked to leave you can not attend. These teenagers then put all the meds in a bowl that each have brought, it is called "TRAIL MIX" you then reach in grab a few pills and pop, it's like Forest Gumps mom said "you never know what your gonna get"... i suggest asking your local police dept or even your local colleges when they will be hosting a health fair where they collect all your old meds to be destroyed..great idea if you have any kids because NO meds of any sort should be left out for a child of any age to be able to get their hands on....
am having such a terrible day. i have taken all my meds and then some , even wentI to the chiropractor thinking the pressure in my head would ease. ofcourse it didn't, i yelled at my daughter today and then cried to tell her i didn't mean to. i told her you know i don't mean to yell but these meds (then she interrupted me saying , "they make you evil") do you know how bad that makes me feel? sometimes i feel like she would be better off without me, today is one of those days. my face is hurting so bad and all i can do is pop a pill and hope it helps...God please help me......

let's get the day started

Well it's 9:43 and i've already taken 4 different pills to be able to start my day. I have taken my cymbalta, gabapentin, lortab and 800 mg ibuprofen...doing ok right now, around 12 my nose and head will start hurting
AGAIN so i will take another gabapentin, a percocet and 800 mg ibuprofen. By the time 5 comes around the pain will resurface so i will take my last gabapentin, lortab, ibuprofen and my lorazepam which enables me to sleep with out hurting. I am such a worry wart so I am worried to death what this stuff is doing to my liver, especially if you want to have a few drinks, your not suppose to drink with these meds so anything you do is going to just accelerate the damage....I hold my head up everyday dealing with this pain, but dammit sometimes i just have to let my hair down. :)

SIMPLY/THICK FOR INFANTS

photolibrary_rf_photo_of_baby_being_fed_with_bottleThe FDA recently recalled SimplyThick, a thickening agent used to help premature infants with swallowing disorders. It was discovered on May 13, 2011, after 15 reported infant deaths related to this product, that SimplyThick could cause necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), if used on infants born before 37 weeks.
NEC is characterized by inflammation and death of intestinal tissue, which can lead to premature death.
SimplyThick was often mixed with formula or breast milk. It was sold in most pharmacies and distributors in the United States. Distributors should stop selling this product immediately and parents/guardians should stop using this product.

The company's McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit is recalling one product lot of Tylenol Extra Strength Caplets made in February 2009 and distributed in the U.S. The recall totals 60,912 bottles, each of which has 225 caplets.
McNeil said it has received a small number of reports about the pills' odor, which has been linked in past J&J recalls to the presence of trace amounts of "2,4,6-tribromoanisole." TBA is a byproduct of a chemical preservative sometimes used on shipping pallets.
Besides causing an unpleasant odor, TBA has been associated with temporary and non-serious gastrointestinal symptoms.

DYING TO LIVE

Hi, just want to introduce myself and tell you a little about my blog. I am 39 yrs. old , married and have a wonderful little girl who is 7. I have been living in pain since Thanksgiving 2006. Exactly 2 days before Thanksgiving , I can remember because it came on so strong, I was sitting on my porch and if felt like something just blew inside my nose , my entire face has been in pain since. I deal with a burning nose to which it feels as if a lighter is being held up to it, it is dry , bleeds and the pain progresses to my eyes and then my forehead.  I have noticed my right eyelid has started to droop. For the past 4 years i have been diagnosed with migraines. I knew it wasn't a migraine because i have had one before , this was a totally different pain that NOTHING would help not even migraine meds. I call this dying to live because the meds that are going thru my body and that have been put in my body is killing me. I recently took a pharmacy technician class at Chattanooga State and in the process have learned how these meds affect you. I have been to Athens, Erlanger and Vanderbilt to see specialists, finally last month I was sent to St. Thomas in Nashville where a Dr. finally diagnosed me with Trigeminal Neuralgia, I also have fibromyalgia (severe pain in my neck and upper back) . Ten years ago I got shingles in the neck which dr. believes caused my fibro, now he believes the shingles have basically resurfaced in my face (yay for me ). Alot of people say you would never know by the way you act and look. I have my good days and my bad. I put a smile on my face and learn to live with the pain. Four years is a lil long tho and I AM getting tired.  I know there are other people out there who suffer from this and I hope they see my blog and can finally get some relief theirself. I have only been on my meds for 3 weeks  so i  haven't had much relief yet, they said there is no cure just trial and error to see if we can ease the pain. Once again , what kind and what effect will these pills have on me in order for me to just get a little bit of relief so i can enjoy living. Right now if it wasn't for my little girl , I would just as soon leave this earth. Her and my husband keep me going. I am going to post the meds i have been on and side effects for others who are on these, I will also be posting new meds and up to date pharmaceutical news as well as crimes and scams. If anyone would like me to answer any questions please feel free to contact me.
